Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is out indefinitely with a sprained ligament in his left foot, but he did avoid a major injury. The big question, then, is if Curry will be ready by the start of the playoffs in mid-April.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne, there's some initial optimism about Curry's status for the playoffs. However, it's not guaranteed and more evaluation on the foot is needed:

Even though there are no guarantees, this is good to hear. The fact that Curry isn't seriously injured is a positive in its own right, and if he can be back in time for the start of the playoffs, the Warriors' title chances go back up. Curry's effectiveness will still be in question whenever he comes back, but just having him out there to begin with would be huge.

Curry suffered the injury against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night when Marcus Smart dove into him going after a loose ball. He's lucky the injury isn't more serious, and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr wasn't happy with Smart's play.

Golden State is 47-23 on the season, which has them in third place in the Western Conference. The Dubs are a game behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the No. 2 seed, and with no Curry for a while, getting that second spot will be tough. The Warriors have some breathing room for No. 3, holding a 3.5-game lead over the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks.

But, ultimately, the most important thing isn't seeding. Golden State just needs to have Curry available in the playoffs, because a healthy Warriors team can beat anybody.
