Several months after their ugly divorce, Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera finally shed light on the short-lived stint of quarterback Dwayne Haskins in D.C. Rivera highlighted Haskins' lack of work ethic and commitment as the two factors which hindered them from attaining success over the past few seasons.

“You know what? I tried to come to terms with him,” Rivera told Cowherd, via Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. “He’s a very talented player. He’s got an NFL arm, a legit arm, and there’s a part of him that he wants to, but something keeps getting in the way. I’m not sure what it was, and that was the hard part because he puts in the time, and then he doesn’t. And you’re wondering, ‘Where is he? What’s he doing?’ You see him over there and you go, ‘OK,’ and then you don’t see him. So I think the thing he needs to do is just prioritize. The kid, as I said, he’s talented, and if he ever does get it, he’s going to make an impact.”

Many were expecting a breakout season from Haskins after he had a mediocre performance in his rookie campaign back in 2019. Instead, Haskins found himself riding the Washington Football Team bench after he failed to impress in the first four games of the 2020 season. Backup playmaker Kyle Allen and returning veteran Alex Smith eventually rotated under center amid his struggles on the field.

The Ohio State product was still given a chance to redeem himself as he was instated back in the starting lineup from Weeks 14 to 16. However, he still failed to capitalize on the opportunities given to him. His violation of COVID-19 protocols in a party served as the last straw as he eventually headed to the exit signs in Washington.

After the release of Haskins, Rivera continues to search for a QB as the Washington Football Team also parted ways with Smith who was named as the 2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen will both return for next season but it remains to be seen if either of them will get the starting nod come Week 1.

On the other hand, Haskins didn't last long in the market as he was eventually grabbed by the Pittsburgh Steelers who took a risk and gave him a one-year, minimum contract. Hopefully, Dwayne Haskins will get to bounce back and ultimately prove that he truly deserves to be in the league moving forward.
