Many WWE fans were shocked when Paige announced that she wasn't going to be signed to a new contract. The former Divas champion has long been one of the most beloved members of the locker room and the community. Naturally, fans wanted an explanation as to why the company refused to hand her a new contract.

On her most recent Twitch stream, Paige laid out the details of WWE's decision to not give her a new contract. The English wrestler said that she felt this decision was a long time coming, but that she didn't hold any grudges against the company for their decision. (transcript from Wrestling, Inc.)

ā€œI knew it was coming eventually… I had a feeling for a while. I’m appreciative of WWE. They helped me so much, more than just wrestling. They got me a therapist when I was having drinking and alcohol issues. They kept me, even after my neck surgery, just sitting on my ass…. I’m not leaving because I want to, they just don’t want to re-sign my contract. I completely understand. There are no hard feelings.ā€

Paige was one of the foundations of the much-improved WWE Women's division. Her debut in 2012 saw her win the then-named Divas Championship, and she held it in style. Her in-ring work and incredible charm on the mic made her an instant crowd favorite and brought legitimacy to the Divas division.

Unfortunately, Paige's in-ring career would be cut short after suffering a neck injury during a live show in 2017. Since then, Paige appeared on WWE television as both a general manager on Smackdown and as the manager for the Kabuki Warriors.

While fans are devastated about her leaving the WWE, Paige said that the company is still leaving the door open for a potential return.

ā€œThey are keeping the door open, both Vince and Johnny [John Laurinaitis] said they’ll keep the door open, but that’s usually what companies say… If WWE ever asked me to do something, it would be that much more special,ā€
