There’s some controversy surrounding the WWE world right now, and it centers around the potential emergence of a wrestling union. WWE star Zelina Vega was recently fired by the company, and it came just moments after the 29-year-old tweeted a rather contentious message about the same.

On Friday, Vega sent out this tweet:

Not long after, the company announced that they were parting ways with Vega, and it doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together. The WWE released a very brief statement on their website to confirm the firing:

“WWE has come to terms on the release of Zelina Vega. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” said the statement.

No further explanation was provided.

Vega, who recently broke off from tag-team partner Andrade, has been attempting to find success as a singles wrestler. She hadn’t gained much steam since, and this is likely also one of the reasons why the WWE decided that it was time to part ways with her. Nevertheless, the timing of the firing remains very suspect. It’s not impossible to think that the company is making an example of Vega, as this move serves as a stern warning against unionization.

As of writing, it appears that it is only Vega that has been terminated by the company. It remains to be seen if her fellow wrestlers will show any kind of support for her, and what effect this might have on their own careers in the WWE.
