According to the latest report, WWE icon John Cena is set to return to the company as soon as Smackdown hits the road and fans are back in seats. A John Cena return date has been allegedly revealed.

The reason for Cena returning to programming on July 16 is due to the fact it would be the first show the WWE has produced since losing fans because of the pandemic (save for Wrestlemania). The news comes via The Wrestling Observer.

It is likely a limited run if the reports are proven to be true. Despite calling out The Rock several years ago for being too Hollywood, Cena has taken to acting rather well. The risk-reward isn't really worth it for him to do a lengthy stint at his old stomping grounds when more lucrative offers await in Los Angeles.

Still, it would be nice to see John Cena have a decent-length program back with the WWE. Toward the end of his last run, fans finally began giving the legend his flowers, after years of booing him regardless of what he did. A feud with Roman Reigns makes sense, as the company can play up the past vs the present if they wanted.
