Even during his WWE career which spanned decades, wrestler John Cena has already appeared in different films. However, as time has gone on, Cena has appeared in more films and received bigger roles. One of these roles will be as the antagonist in F9, the latest entry in the Fast and the Furious film franchise, which is set to be released on June 25.
And based on the film’s trailer, Cena gets plenty of screen time opposite Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto.

In the trailer, Cena is revealed to be Jakob, Dominic’s younger brother. While the Fast and Furious films have emphasized the importance of family and not leaving them behind, Jakob apparently experienced just that with his older brother; putting them at odds. Now an assassin, the film will see John Cena’s character working with Cipher, played by Charlize Theron, an old enemy of Dominic from the 2017 film, The Fate of the Furious.
F9 was originally scheduled to be released in 2019, but was delayed due to the spin-off film Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw. It was then delayed again due to the COVID-19 pandemic before receiving a June 25 release date.
The 43-year-old Cena, a 16-time world champion with the WWE, will also appear in another film later this year, playing the Peacemaker in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
Aside from portraying the superhero on the big screen, Cena will appear as the Peacemaker in a series being developed by Gunn for HBO Max. The Suicide Squad has an August 6 release date, so before they see him as a superhero, fans of the longtime wrestler will see him first battle Dominic Toretto in the latest installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. John Cena's stock continues to rise as he has parlayed a successful WWE career into a film acting career almost seamlessly.
