The New York Yankees are getting some bad news. Yankees star prospect and outfielder Jasson Dominguez is getting placed on the injured list for the organization's triple-A team, per MLB.com. Dominguez was removed from a game Saturday, playing with triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Dominguez is one of the top Yankees prospects in the team's farm system. He is from the Dominican Republic. Dominguez played a limited role for the Yankees during the 2023 season, but hasn't seen any at-bats this year. The outfielder was already recovering from a serious injury, so this certainly makes matters worse.

Dominguez in the minors this season

The outfielder is hitting quite well this season, with a .356 average. He has six home runs and 13 runs batted in. He has worked his way this season through nearly every team in the Yankees' minor league system. It certainly seemed like the young outfielder was on track to play for the big team once again.

Unfortunately, injuries have bogged him down. Dominguez underwent Tommy John surgery following a tear earlier in the spring, but seemed on the way to recovery. He was hitting again on his rehab assignment, with the Yankees' triple-A club in Pennsylvania. His latest injury is slowing down his recovery process. It is unclear at time of writing if his latest ailment is related to his earlier tear. Dominguez was placed on the 7-day injured list on Sunday by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

In 2023, Dominguez appeared in eight games for the Bronx Bombers. He hit .258, with seven runs batted in. That wasn't too bad, considering he only had 31 at-bats and had never played any big league baseball. Yankees fans are very excited to see how the outfielder develops, as the team makes an effort to get back into the American League playoffs.

New York is having one of the best seasons the team has seen recently. The Bronx Bombers were the first MLB team this season to reach 50 wins. The club is also at the top of the American League East division this season, with a 50-23 record. New York has found new life this season with the addition of Juan Soto, who is slugging at a strong pace. Soto and Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge are smashing home runs left and right during this thrilling campaign.

The Yankees pitching staff is also doing a marvelous job. The pitching rotation has the best ERA in baseball, with a 2.94 mark. The club is trying to get back to the AL playoffs after a disappointing 82-80 mark in the 2023 season. At the moment it seems as if Dominguez isn't even needed by the big team, so fans are hoping their young star gets the rest he needs.

New York looks to continue their winning ways on Sunday, in a game against their bitter rival the Boston Red Sox. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 Eastern.
