Texas A&M is off to a 2-0 start after knocking off Kent State in Colorado in their first two games of the season. Moving forward, they'll have to do things for awhile without starting quarterback Haynes King.

King suffered a fractured ankle against the Buffaloes on Saturday and, according to on3.com, he underwent surgery on Sunday. Texas A&M is expected to be without the freshman quarterback until at least the middle of October.

Texas A&M’s Haynes King sustained a fractured ankle during the No. 7 Aggies’ 10-7 win over Colorado on Saturday, sources tell On3’s Matt Zenitz and Gerry Hamilton. King, a redshirt freshman, had surgery Sunday and is expected to be out until at least mid-October, the sources said.

That means A&M, which opens SEC play against No. 20 Arkansas on September 25, will turn to sophomore Zach Calzada as its starting quarterback. After Arkansas, the Aggies face Mississippi State on October 2, No. 1 Alabama on October 9 and Missouri on October 16.

That's a brutal stretch of SEC games for Texas A&M to go without having King.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher didn't offer up any sort of time table for King to return.

Calzada replaced King against Colorado and went 18/38 for 183 yards and one touchdown. It was just enough as the Aggies were able to edge out Colorado 10-7.

Thankfully for Texas A&M, they have one of the best defenses in the nation to lean on for the long, grueling SEC schedule. They'll need every bit of it without King being in the mix.

It's a tough loss for Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies but expectations will still remain high for Texas A&M with Calzada slotted in at QB1 now.
