It has been a whirlwind week for the Chicago Bears. Rookie quarterback Justin Fields has broken ribs, and there have been rumors swirling around the future of Matt Nagy. A report earlier in the week suggested Nagy had been told he would be fired after Thursday's game against the Detroit Lions, sending the Bears into damage control leading up to the game.

Bears general manager Ryan Pace spoke on the radio ahead of the Thanksgiving contest against the Lions. As expected, he denied the validity of the firing report and tried to deflect:

The initial report of Nagy's imminent firing came on Tuesday morning. The Bears head coach addressed the media that day about it, and then Wednesday brought reports of ownership denial. Thursday morning brought another report of a Bears denial.

For right now, it seems like Nagy won't actually get fired after Thursday's game … but perhaps that changes if Chicago actually loses to the winless Lions. The Bears have never actually fired a head coach during the season, so the best bet is Nagy just winds up getting fired once the 2021 campaign ends.

As for Fields, an MRI revealed broken ribs, but the good news is it doesn't seem to be a serious injury. Pace confirmed this:

It sounds like there's a chance Fields will be back for Week 13 against the Arizona Cardinals, though the Bears should be extra cautious with their franchise quarterback. Given all the turmoil surrounding this franchise, keeping Fields healthy is the most important thing in the organization right now.
