As head coach Zac Taylor and the Cincinnati Bengals prepare to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, they'll be closely monitoring Patrick Mahomes' ankle injury. But Taylor isn't quite sure what to believe when it comes to Mahomes' injury woes.

Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Chiefs' 27-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional Round. However, he was with Kansas City practicing on Wednesday. Speaking to media after the Bengals' practice, Taylor shared his thoughts on what to expect from Mahomes' injured ankle, via Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith.

“You follow the injury reports day to day, but you take it all with a grain of salt,” Taylor said.

Taylor and the Bengals won't know Mahomes true status until closer to game time. Cincinnati's head coach is more focused on what his team can do to prepare for the challenge that is Kansas City.

To Zac Taylor's credit, the Bengals defeated the Chiefs 27-24 back in Week 13. That's the same score Cincinnati defeated Kansas City by in last year's AFC Championship. The Bengals have found their stride this season and they're looking to defeat the Chiefs once more.

Even if he is hurt, Taylor knows that Mahomes is a dangerous quarterback when he is on the field. They'll be watching the Chiefs' injury report to see if they can get an idea of his playing status. But whether Mahomes is listed questionable or probable, Taylor's only focus is helping lead the Bengals back to the Super Bowl.
