The Los Angeles Chargers have been dealt a significant blow to their defense with star defensive end Joey Bosa currently out of the lineup due to dealing with a foot injury.

There has been much vagueness in terms of how long that will force him to sit out, but head coach Anthony Lynn voiced on Thursday morning that Bosa is expected to be out of the mix for the next few weeks, according to Ross Tucker of SiriusXM NFL Radio.

This puts the Chargers defensive front behind the eight ball a little for the next couple of weeks without one of their anchors against the pass not on the field. Bosa has emerged as one of the rising stars in the league through his first two years in the NFL behind his stellar play after posting back-to-back double-digit sack totals in his first two seasons.

He is also coming off a career-high 12.5 sacks with 70 tackles and four forced fumbles while playing in all 16 regular season games, earning his first Pro Bowl selection. The Chargers have been quite precautious with the situation to avoid Bosa from suffering any more additional setbacks that included him getting a second opinion on the injury. There has been much attention being paid to help make sure that it is all handled properly over the next couple of weeks.

With Bosa out of the lineup for some time, this has placed a greater deal of importance on Pro Bowl defensive end Melvin Ingram to be a more significant factor in rushing the passer as he and Bosa have formed a dynamic duo. He is coming off a strong 2017 season where he tied his career high with 10.5 sacks while forcing a fumble with a pair of fumble recoveries. This will also need defensive tackles Brandon Mebane and Darius Philon to step up in Bosa's absence over the next few weeks that he's out of the lineup.
