The Los Angeles Chargers made another big addition to what was an already stout defense in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft on Thursday night, selecting Notre Dame defensive lineman Jerry Tillery with the 28th overall pick.

Chargers pass rusher Melvin Ingram is thrilled with the selection, telling TMZ Sports that Los Angeles now has the best defensive line in the league.

A combination of Tillery, Ingram and Joey Bosa certainly sounds lethal.

Tillery is coming off of a terrific senior campaign in which he registered 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks and a pair of forced fumbles.

The 22-year-old arrived at Notre Dame back in 2015, and in his freshman year with the school, he totaled 12 tackles, a pair of tackles for loss and a sack. Then, the following season, Tillery finished with 37 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.

Tillery then had a breakout year of sorts during his junior campaign, as he racked up 56 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

While the Bolts had a very good defensive unit overall this past season, ranking ninth in total defense and eighth in points allowed, one area where they actually could use some help is in the pass rush, as they ranked just 19th in the NFL with 38 sacks.

With the addition of Tillery and with a full year of Ingram, you have to think the Chargers will be getting to the quarterback quite a bit more next season.

Los Angeles won 12 games in 2018, eventually falling to the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
