Sarah Fuller made history on Saturday by becoming the first woman to play in a Power 5 conference college football game, according to Vanderbilt Athletics.

Fuller, a senior goalkeeper on Vanderbilt's SEC champion soccer team, delivered the opening kickoff of the second half for Vanderbilt against Missouri. Her kick traveled 30 yards and was recovered by Missouri at its 35-yard line.

This past week, Sarah Fuller was recruited by Vanderbilt's football team after several of their players tested positive for COVID-19. She eventually tried out and did well enough to get added to the football roster.

Although she was added onto Vanderbilt's football roster, there was no guarantee she was going to play. This past week, head football coach Derek Mason told ESPN that Fuller “is an option for us.” He added, “she's got a strong leg. We'll see what that yields.” However, it looks like Mason ended up giving her a chance.

Before the game on Saturday, Fuller was asked what it would feel like to make history. Here's what she said:

“I think it's amazing and incredible,” Fuller told Vanderbilt's team website earlier in the week. “But I'm also trying to separate that because I know this is a job I need to do and I want to help the team out and I want to do the best that I can. Placing that historical aspect aside just helps me focus in on what I need to do. I don't want to let them down in any way.”

History made.
