Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams is currently in trouble with the law after being arrested on suspicion of public intoxication over the weekend. Williams has pleaded his innocence regarding the whole incident, but that’s still for the court to decide.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admits he doesn’t know the full extent of the details regarding Williams’ incident. But despite that fact, Jones has thrown his support behind Williams based on his positive first-hand knowledge of him as a person.
“I know Terrance,” Jones told USA Today Sports. “He's solid. Real solid. I'm hopeful. I don't know the details. I read his public statement about it and take it at face value. … Haven't talked to him. In general, his track record is really solid with us on behavior issues. So consequentially, I'm not going to give it a lot of concern, other than I just hate that he's had that issue.”
It remains to be seen what happens with Williams’ whole situation. He could potentially face further discipline if he’s found guilty of the charge. Losing Williams for any amount of time during the season would be the last thing the Cowboys need given their current situation at wide receiver.
Williams didn’t have the greatest year in 2017 as he had 53 catches for 568 yards and no touchdowns. But with Dez Bryant gone, Williams could have a bigger role to play on a determined Cowboys receiving corps that also features newcomers Allen Hurns, Deonte Thompson, Michael Gallup, as well as veteran Cole Beasley.
