Dune director Denis Villeneuve looks set to re-team with Eric Roth for another sci-fi film.
A “very lonely” sci-fi film
Speaking to Script Apart about his latest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, Roth discussed his future projects. He revealed that he's written another sci-fi film that Villeneuve.
“I just wrote a movie for Denis Villeneuve,” he revealed on the podcast. “We'll see what ends up happening with it, but it's about space and time, and it's very lonely. It's certainly about eternity.”
Eric Roth is an award-winning screenwriter that previously won Best Adapted Screenplay for Forrest Gump. He's also been nominated for his scripts for The Insider, Munich, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, A Star Is Born, Mank, and Dune.
He's also written the scripts for Ali and Martin Scorsese's latest, Killers of the Flower Moon (with Scorsese). Roth will also write Robert Zemeckis' next film, Here, with him.
While he wrote the first film, Roth did not return for Dune: Part Two. Villeneuve co-wrote the script with Jon Spaihts, which adapts the second half of Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic.
Dune: Part Two was supposed to be released on October 20, 2023. The film was then moved to November 17 and November 3 before moving to next spring due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The sequel will now be released on March 1, 2024.
Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, and Stellan Skarsgård all return for the sequel. Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux, and Christopher Walken will make their franchise debuts in the sequel.
