Scream 7 will mark the return of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). After sitting out of the sixth film over a pay dispute, Campbell announced she would be returning. She seems excited about coming back to the franchise that made her a star.
“I've lived with Sidney for 30 years, and I'm really, really grateful to get to go back to it,” she told People.
She then discussed how the pay dispute weighed on her heading into the Scream 7 negotiations. Initially, Sidney did not feel respected.
“I'm really grateful that the studio heard me when I talked about pay discrepancy and when I talked about [Scream VI negotiations] not feeling respectful,” she said. “When they first approached me [for Scream 7], I thought, ‘I don't know what respectful looks like to them. We might be in very different places.’ But they started out in a strong place, so that was lovely.”
While Campbell ultimately missed out on the sixth film, she stood strong. Campbell seems happy that she stood her ground and waited until an appropriate offer was made.
“It feels nice to have put that out into the world and to have been listened to and to have made a difference in that way,” she said. “I hope other people get that opportunity too.”
What will Neve Campbell's Scream return look like?

Kevin Williamson, who created the Scream franchise, will direct the seventh film. Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day) was initially set to helm the film after Radio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett left.
“I'm really excited that Kevin Williamson is going to direct,” Campbell said of Williamson directing. “I think he's been wanting to do it for years and he deserves it. This is his baby. He's going to do a phenomenal job.”
Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega both exited the seventh film as well. The former was fired for her posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict, while the latter left due to scheduling issues. That left the film in a vulnerable spot, and Campbell stepped up to the plate with her return.
Neve Campbell led the first Scream film in 1996 as Sidney Prescott. This launched her career to superstardom. She would lead four sequels, including the 2022 film, before sitting out of the sixth entry.
The fifth film introduced Barrera and Ortega's characters into the fold. While franchise stalwarts Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette all returned, the film was intended to launch the franchise to a new generation.
Outside of her Scream fame, Campbell also gained recognition for her roles in Wild Things, Panic, and Skyscraper.
On the small screen, Campbell starred in the fourth and fifth seasons of House of Cards for Netflix. She also starred in the streaming service's adaptation of The Lincoln Lawyer. More recently, Campbell starred in Peacock's Twisted Metal with Anthony Mackie.
