The New York Giants decided to retire Eli Manning's jersey during Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. The legendary quarterback played 16 seasons for the Giants before retiring in 2019. However, not everyone at the Meadowlands on Sunday seemed thrilled when Manning took the field beside Giants co-owner John Mara.

A sizable contingent of fans, in fact, rained boos down on New York's president and CEO even after Manning did his best to quiet the jeering.

The concerns of Giants fans are completely understandable. The team has not been in the playoffs since 2016 and seems no closer to getting there this season after opening with a pair of dispiriting losses. It's clear that the fans are looking for someone to blame for their team's longtime struggles, and Mara is as obvious a target as any.

Manning, however, is one of the greatest players in Giants history. During his 16-year tenure in New York, Manning won two Super Bowls and was named to the Pro Bowl on four separate occasions. He also holds the NFL record for most passing yards in a single postseason, with 1,219 yards in 2011, which culminated in his second Super Bowl victory.

The Giants and Falcons both entered Week 3 looking for their first win of the season.
