With the New York Giants selecting Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick, it could spell the end of backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta's time with the team. Dave Gettleman and the Giants took Lauletta with a fourth-round pick last year, but he still looks like the odd guy out even though he has only been on the team one year.

As Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News points out, the signs are on the wall for this to be the end.

“Dave Gettleman and Pat Shurmur kept Eli Manning, drafted Daniel Jones sixth overall, re-signed veteran backup Alex Tanney, and signed undrafted free agent Syracuse QB Eric Dungey as an all-around athlete.”

That means the Giants currently sit with five quarterbacks on the roster and the only way they will keep four is if they see enough in Eric Dungey, and even then that would probably be on the practice squad.

Lauletta was arrested last year and Gettleman seemed to reference that when he talked about his franchise quarterback needing to stay out of trouble.

“It’s a massive decision. This is the face of your franchise,” the GM said. “He’s gotta do all the right stuff for all the right reasons. You can’t go to bed at night worrying if he’s gonna come in on time. You can’t do that stuff, no matter how talented they are.”

This doesn't seem like a decision that will happen in the next few weeks, but rather during training camp or on cut down day after the preseason is over.
