With the 2019 NFL season just around the corner, the Cleveland Browns have managed to spice things up once again with some shots fired at the New York Giants. Head coach Pat Shurmur is doing what he can to stay focused on the task at hand.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. made headlines with their criticisms of the Giants. According to Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, Shurmur is not concerned with their opinions:

“[Baker] is in a long line of people that criticized that move,” Shurmur told reporters. “That’s not originally commentary, is it? . . . I know [Jones] is a winner. Don’t confuse calm and composed for a guy who is competitive and a winner.

“Quite frankly, on our list of issues of the day, it really doesn’t matter what Odell or Baker say. There’s many other things we should be discussing.

Beckham kicked things off by insinuating that New York had spurned him by trading him to Cleveland. He suggested that the fallout between both sides had reached a personal level, and the team had no desire in looking out for his best interests.

Meanwhile, Mayfield took a seemingly unprovoked shot at the Giants for selecting Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft despite his lack of overwhelming success at Duke. The rookie has since responded by simply acknowledging his shortcomings and doing what he can to prove he is a winner.

The Giants will undoubtedly have their work cut out trying to bounce back in the 2019 NFL season. This may be why Shurmur is not looking to get too caught up in all the noise before the real test begins.
