No one is more excited for the Jacksonville Jaguars recent signing of former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert than Jags head coach Doug Marrone.

Marrone recently spoke on the Eifert signing and what he brings to a Jacksonville team that has lacked a quality tight end for the past few seasons.

“Tyler is a proven contributor in this league, and we’re excited to add him to our team,” Marrone said, per Jaguars.com. “He has shown the ability to be a playmaker in the passing game, especially in the red zone, while also adding immense value as a blocker in the run game.”

No team got less production from their tight ends last season that the Jaguars. The team had a long list of starters at the position throughout the season including Seth Devalve, Ben Koyack, James O'Shaughnessy, Nick O'Leary, Josh Oliver and Geoff Swaim.

Regardless, the Jaguars core of tight ends produced a combined 455 yards and three total touchdowns with O'Shaughnessy leading the position with 153 yards and two touchdowns despite playing just five games.

On the other hand, Eifert, while no longer the Pro-Bowl caliber talent he was in 2015, is still an effective weapon as both a blocker and pass-catcher. Eifert played all 16 games last season making for starts and recording 43 catches for 436 yards three touchdowns

“I expect him to make us more efficient and productive on the offensive side of the ball, and after speaking with Tyler, I know he’s eager for this opportunity,” Marrone added.

Injuries have been a concern for the 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end but having played in every game last season is a good sign for Marrone and Jacksonville.
