Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles suffered a broken left clavicle in the team's 40-26 Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to The Athletic's Phillip Heilman.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Foles is out indefinitely due to the injury.
ESPN's Adam Schefter also reports that Foles will undergo surgery on Monday.
Foles suffered the injury when Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones tackled him to the ground while throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver D.J. Chark.
He immediately left the game, going to the X-ray room for further evaluation. His Jaguars debut lasted less than a quarter.
Foles finished his first game in teal and black by throwing 5 for 8 for 75 yards and the score. Rookie sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew replaced him, going 22 for 25 for 275 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
Article Continues BelowThe broken left clavicle means Foles has broken his collarbone. Though the injury isn't season-ending in most cases, it will hold him out for some time.
The time to heal can often by as low as six weeks or as high as months, and he won't be available to play next week against the Houston Texans.
The Jaguars signed Foles to a four-year deal worth $88 million in free agency, in doing so, they also released Blake Bortles. The addition of Foles is under an assumption that he will be able to do what he did in Philadelphia: win Super Bowl MVP.
However, with the injury, the efforts to do so will be delayed.
