The Los Angeles Rams made it all the way to the Super Bowl last year, but they have a tough offseason ahead of them. They have a bunch of impending free agents, and won't be able to pay everybody. To that end, the team is “unlikely” to re-sign left guard Rodger Saffold, a source told Matt Verderame of Fansided.

NFL Network's Steve Wyche chimed in to say the Jets will be interested in Saffold assuming he becomes available.

Saffold has been a large part of the Rams' resurgence the past couple of years, and has been one of the best guards in the league. He entered the league as a second round pick back in 2010, and has been a full-time starter with the Rams ever since. Saffold was Pro Football Focus' ninth-highest graded guard this past season, and was a second-team All-Pro in 2017.

The Rams' offensive line got a big boost when left tackle Andrew Whitworth announced he would return for the 2019 season instead of retiring, but it looks like they'll be losing his partner on the left side of the line.

The Jets have publicly declared their intent to be aggressive in free agency, and it makes sense that they'd pursue one of the top offensive linemen available. The team needs to upgrade their blocking to help protect Sam Darnold, and Saffold would be a great fit.

Saffold is 30 now, so he should have at the very least several more very productive years. He's played the best ball of his career the past couple of seasons, and will be looking to cash in. Whoever ends up signing him is going to have to plunk down a significant amount of guaranteed money.
