Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James' latest foray into the movie industry fell well short of expectations. James starred in the popular basketball sequel Space Jam: A New Legacy, but unfortunately for the King, the movie wasn't nearly as well-received as its predecessor, which stars Michael Jordan. In fact, amid the upcoming Academy Awards show, the Razzie awards have released their nominations for worst actor and worst picture, and James and Space Jam have made the shortlist for both unfavorable awards.
Among the other films nominated for worst picture include Diana: The Musical (Netflix edition), Infinite, Karen, and The Woman in the Window. The other actors competing alongside James for the “worst actor” crown include Scott Eastwood, Roe Hartrampf, Ben Platt, and Mark Wahlberg.
Space Jam: A New Legacy was considered by many to be among the worst movies of 2021, despite the star-studded cast that included the likes of Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Zendaya, Michael B. Jordan, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, and more. Rotten Tomatoes rated the movie a brutal 25% on its Tomatometer, while IMDB heralds the film as a 4.4/10.
While the Lakers look like longshots to take home an NBA Finals victory in 2021-22, James is still in the running for some individual accolades for his lackluster performance on and off the court in Space Jam, as unwanted as the award may be.
In addition to his worst actor and worst picture nominations, LeBron was also nominated for the category of “Worst Screen Couple, with the Razzies pairing the Lakers star with “Any Warner Cartoon Character (or Time-Warner Product) He Dribbles on / Space Jam: A New Legacy.“
