The Mariners make the trip to New York to face the Yankees! These two teams are playing well with the Mariners playing solid baseball, while the Yankees are on a winning streak and they have been red-hot on their way to the top of the AL. However, in this series, the Mariners have won the first two overall. Our MLB odds series has our Mariners-Yankees prediction, odds, and pick for Thursday.

The Mariners have been playing well recently and have a 27-22 record. The Mariners have struggled behind the plate so far, but their pitching staff is a top-10 unit in the MLB. Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh, Mitch Haniger, Jorge Polanco, Ty France, and Mitch Garver are standouts for the offense despite its struggles up to this point in the season. Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert, and Bryce Miller have all been at varying levels of great for the Mariners on the mound. This is an interesting matchup against the Yankees and their talent behind the plate. They have the talent on the mound, but the Mariners have fared well to start this series with two straight wins.

The Yankees have been playing very well but they lost the first two games in this series to send them to a 33-17 record after those losses broke a seven-game winning streak. They have the best record in the AL currently, despite the two straight losses. Their bats have been great this season and their pitching has been even better as the best staff in the MLB. The Yankees have been great across the board this season. Juan Soto is a difference maker to go with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, and Anthony Volpe behind the plate. Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Luis Gil, and Carlos Rodon have all been at varying levels of great on the mound. The Yankees have been great, but they need to bounce back in this series.

Why The Mariners Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Mariners are starting Luis Castillo on the mound where he has a 4-5 record, a 3.28 ERA, and a 1.14 WHIP. Through 60.1 innings, he has allowed 24 runs on 54 hits with 15 walks and 66 strikeouts. In his 10 starts this season, the Mariners are 5-5. In his last start, he pitched six innings and allowed two runs on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts in a Mariners win. Castillo has been very good for the Mariners on the mound and gets a difficult matchup against the Yankees behind the plate.

The Mariners have talent on offensebut they have struggled and been inconsistent behind the plate. They are 24th in batting average at .229 after finishing last season with a .242 batting average. Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh lead the way for the Mariners in most of the batting categories. Rodriguez leads the way in batting average at .268, in OBP at .317, and in total hits at 52. Raleigh then leads in home runs at 10 and in RBI at 25. This offense has a tough matchup against Luis Gil on the mound for the Yankees, who have been great across the board.

Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Yankees are starting Luis Gil on the mound where he has a 5-1 record, a 239 ERA, and a 1.08 WHIP. Gil has allowed 14 runs on 26 hits with 27 walks and 62 strikeouts through 49 innings. He has started in nine games and the Yankees have gone 7-2 in those games. In his last start, he pitched six innings and allowed one run on five hits with one walk and 14 strikeouts in a Yankees win. This is a favorable matchup for Gil because he has been great this year and the Mariners have not found any consistency behind the plate, despite winning two straight in the series.

The biggest key for the Yankees is their offense. They are ranked fifth in the MLB in team batting average at .256 and that was after struggling last season to a .227 batting average. 13 Yankees have hit at least one home run this season and it has been a massive difference from the previous season. Juan Soto has been the key, leading the way in most batting categories next to Aaron Judge. Soto leads the way in batting average at .309, in RBI at 37, in OBP at .408, and in total hits at 59. Judge then leads the way in home runs at 13 so far on the year. This will be an interesting matchup because Luis Castillo has been very good and the Mariners might have an advantage overall in this series against an offense as good as the Yankees.

Final Mariners-Yankees Prediction & Pick

The Mariners have had the Yankees' number in this series. The pitching difference is marginal between Luis Castillo and Luis Gil for the Mariners and the Yankees. Castillo should be enough to slow down the Yankees offense behind the plate and Gil has been great so this should be a pitching duel. Expect the Mariners to cover in this game and potentially win based on the first two games in the series.
