The New York Mets' disappointing season took another scary turn on Wednesday as Pete Alonso left the game after being hit by a pitch. However, the Mets received some encouraging news on the Alonso injury front on Thursday, per a report from Jon Heyman.

‘Pete Alonso has a bone bruise, no break was found.'

Andy Martino also provided some more details on Alonso's injury:

‘Pete Alonso’s CT scan on his right hand was negative, no fracture, per source. He is day to day.'

When Alonso first suffered the injury, fans feared a long timetable for recovery, so this is certainly a promising update for the Mets slugger.

Alonso was hit by the pitch in the bottom of the first inning in Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets ended up losing 10-3 as the Dodgers competed the three-game sweep in New York.

As of now, there is no official timetable for Alonso, just him being listed as day-to-day. On the other hand, this is a promising update after there was fear of a break or a fracture, which would've sidelined him for a long time.

On the year, the Mets are off to a disappointing 22-33 record, and Alonso has been off and on. So far on the season, he is hitting .231 with 12 home runs and 26 RBIs, but being without him for an extended period won't help their chances whatsoever.

For however long Alonso is out, it looks to be Mark Vientos who will fill in for him at first base. Vientos replaced Alonso on Wednesday, and Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed optimism in him being the immediate fill-in for the injured slugger, per SNY.

“I feel good [having him play first base]. He’s played there before, he’s had reps and I feel comfortable if we need to. We have to wait for Pete first.”

Vientos went hitless on Wednesday but has a .300 batting average with three home runs and six RBIs on limited run this season for the Mets. Nonetheless, Pete Alonso avoiding a break or fracture is certainly good news for the franchise.
