The President of the University of Michigan is standing by his coach Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan football program following the school's victory over Penn State Saturday. Michigan President Santa Ono took to social media to send a message of strength and unity.

“We will respond to any challenge head on with a conviction to do better and to emerge even stronger,” Ona posted.

Michigan football is embroiled in an NCAA investigation into whether Coach Jim Harbaugh stole signs from other football programs. The Big Ten is also investigating the matter, and Harbaugh is serving a suspension from the league for the rest of the regular season. The school filed a legal challenge to allow Harbaugh to coach, but a judge didn't rule on the issue in time for the Wolverines' game against Penn State Saturday.

It turns out the team didn't need Harbaugh anyway. Michigan defeated Penn State 24-15, behind a strong showing by the team's defense. Interim coach Sherrone Moore won the game for Michigan and got emotional following the win, showing respect to Harbaugh. Moore would continue as interim coach if Harbaugh isn't allowed to come back and coach the next two games for the Wolverines, including a rivalry game with Ohio State on November 25.

The investigations are ongoing, and Michigan has admitted no fault. The school did part ways, however, with analyst Connor Stalions, who was named in the probe. A legal hearing is scheduled on November 17 to rule on whether Harbaugh can coach in the regular season, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

The investigation has created a dark cloud over the historic program. Michigan is 10-0 on the season, and undefeated in Big Ten conference play. Two more wins will put the Wolverines in the Big Ten Championship, with a chance to go to the College Football Playoff. If Harbaugh's suspension isn't lifted, he would be allowed to next coach either the conference championship game or Michigan's bowl game.

Michigan football's next game is Saturday at Maryland. Kickoff is at noon Eastern. Maryland is 6-4 on the season with a 3-4 record in the Big Ten.
