The Chicago White Sox announced Monday morning that they have parted ways with manager Rick Renteria after a four-year partnership.

Here's the White Sox's statement:

Renteria replaced Robin Ventura as White Sox manager in 2016. While his first three years with the club were marred by a lot of losses during painful rebuilding years, the shortened 2020 season saw Chicago take a huge step forward under Renteria.

Bolstered by an exciting lineup and an ace in Lucas Giolito, the White Sox went 35-25 in 2020 to secure their first playoff appearance since 2008. Chicago was actually in position to win the AL Central until a slump to finish the season dropped them behind the Minnesota Twins and into a tie with the Cleveland Indians.

The White Sox drew the Oakland Athletics in the Wild Card Series and actually struck first by winning Game 1. Unfortunately, the A's won the next two games to eliminate Chicago in three games. Renteria took a good amount of heat for his decision-making in the Game 3 loss to Oakland, specifically in regards to how he handled his pitching staff.

Renteria finished his White Sox managerial career with a 236-309 record. General manager Rick Hahn will now look for the man who can help guide his team to the World Series.

Ironically enough, Renteria managed the Chicago Cubs before they let him go and hired Joe Maddon to get them to the next level. Maddon enjoyed an incredible amount of success with the Cubs, winning the World Series in 2016 and breaking a 108-year drought in the process.

The White Sox won't be hiring Joe Maddon, but they'll be hoping for a similar final result after letting go of Renteria.
