The Los Angeles Dodgers took advantage of an unfortunate situation between star first baseman Freddie Freeman and the Atlanta Braves. Freeman, who helped the Braves secure a World Series title and won an MVP award the season before that in Atlanta, didn't have his contract requests met by the only franchise he has ever known. The Dodgers, seeing a chance to make an already imposing lineup downright scary, signed Freeman. However, his arrival in Los Angeles was much more than just another chance to win a World Series. For Freeman, a California native, it was a homecoming. And the star first baseman is feeling emotional ahead of his home debut with the team against the Cincinnati Reds, per The Athletic.

“It’s just — it’s nice to be home, where I grew up,” Freeman said. “I still didn’t envision that I’d ever be playing at home, but now that I’m here, I’m going to soak it all in.”

Ahead of his Dodgers' home debut against the Reds, Freeman said “it's nice to be home where he grew up.” It clearly hasn't sunk in yet for the former Braves star, who is feeling all sorts of emotions over his California homecoming.

The Dodgers star will get to suit up and play in front of family and friends in the place where he grew up. Freeman doesn't quite know how to process that.

One thing is for sure. Freeman will “soak it all in” as he experiences one of the most surreal moments of his career.
