The San Diego Padres are off to a strong start in the 2022 MLB season and are quickly gaining ground on the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team has long been awaiting another update on star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., and they finally received some news on his injury on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the news was not what fans were hoping to hear.
According to Kevin Acee, Tatis Jr. underwent a CT scan on Monday and the results were discouraging. Tatis will have his timeline to return moved back after not showing enough healing on his fractured wrist.
Fernando Tatis Jr.’s CT scan yesterday did not reveal the level of healing the Padres hoped. The timeline will be moved back.

The Padres didn't offer a specific updated timeline for Tatis, but this is another significant setback for the superstar shortstop. Tatis was hoping the CT scan would give some encouraging results and allow him to advance to bat-work in his recovery from the wrist surgery, but that was not the case in the end.
Tatis underwent surgery to repair his broken wrist in March and the Padres indicated he would have a three-month timetable for his return. Now approaching the three-month benchmark, Tatis is still not yet ready to swing a bat, so it will be a while longer before he's able to get back to game action after this latest setback.
Padres manager AJ Preller indicated that Tatis had his three-month follow-up on Monday and there were some aspects of his recovery that were trending in the right direction. However, the healing in his wrist wasn't significant enough to allow him to advance to swinging a bat and taking part in rehab games.
According to AJ Preller, Fernando Tatis saw Dr. Sheridan yesterday for his 3 month follow up. It went well with range of motion & strength. They saw healing, but it wasn't where he could get the full green light to swing a bat and play in rehab games. Tatis is week to week.

For now, the Padres are listing Tatis as week-to-week, which is a very vague description, so fans should keep their eyes open for more updates down the line. He's set to be re-evaluated in a few weeks, at which point they'll see how much progress and healing he's experienced in his wrist and hopefully offer a more distinct timetable.
