Charlotte Hornets' newest point guard Terry Rozier is going to be with the team for the next three years and will be paid $58 million in that duration. This has once again been questioned by a lot of fans, as the team has been known to overpay players that have failed to live up to expectations. But for Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak believes that Rozier has a bright future and has the potential to become an elite point guard, which is why he defended the length and size of the 25-year-old's contract in his interview with Rick Bonnell of Charlotte Observer.

“Most of the (starting) point guards in this league make between $15 million and $35 million per season, I think the length is perfect. Whether or not the money is perfect, we’ll have to wait a year or two and look back on it and then make a judgment.”

Kupchak believes that Rozier will do everything that he can to prove himself in the league.

“One thing I know: Nobody is going to outwork him. Nobody is going to play harder than him. He loves to play defense, He’s a great worker. I believe he can score in this league. He’s got the physical tools.”

Rozier was actually signed-and-traded by the Boston Celtics to the Hornets in exchange for All-Star guard Kemba Walker. One can argue that Charlotte had no choice but to overpay Rozier in order to make the salaries match in the trade. Had they refused to do that, they would've lost Walker for nothing.

But that is not a knock on Rozier's game. He definitely can play and that's what he's proven during his time with the Celtics. But he's in unfamiliar territory now. because he's expected to be the best player on the team.

And just like what Kupchak said, we'll just have to wait and see if he lives up to the expectations.
