Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier has been in awe of rookie backcourt mate LaMelo Ball.
The 26-year-old hailed Ball as a special talent and person off the floor, encouraging Hornets fans to soak in his talent:
“He’s special. He’s special,” Rozier said, via Roderick Boone's Hive Vibes Newsletter. “We've got a star in the making. So I would just tell people just to enjoy it because you aren't going to really see too many people like him. A special talent, a special person, great person. So he deserves everything that’s coming his way. So I tell people just enjoy it because you aren’t going to see too many guys like this. Ever.”
The Hornets guard has twice earned Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors. He is averaging 15.8 points, 6.3 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game, leading all rookies in the three major categories. Ball also has a slight edge over New York Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley and Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton in player efficiency rating.
The No. 3 pick has also quieted some of the doubts regarding his shooting touch and defensive acumen. Ball is shooting 37.8 percent from beyond the arc on 5.3 attempts per game. His size and length have been incredibly beneficial on the defensive end for the Hornets, as Ball is averaging 1.6 steals and has a 0.9 defensive box plus-minus.
Ball is the leading candidate for the Rookie of the Year Award, and a major determinant in the Hornets' playoff potential. But Rozier suggested this is only the beginning for Ball, who appears fully ready to blossom into a superstar.
