Plenty had been said about the meteoric rise of the Golden State Warriors through the years, going from a bottom-dwelling laughing stock of the league to a prominent title contender for the past three seasons.
A few weeks ago, when the Warriors defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, longtime reporter who covers the Warriors for the Mercury News, Marcus Thompson, spoke with Stephen Curry and mentioned that he'd been “golden, almost like a miraculous rise.” Curry chuckled upon hearing the question at the beginning of the press conference and didn't answer it.

The backstory behind the friendly exchange is that Thompson wrote a book about Curry that was released to the public on April 11th, before the start of the postseason. His book, unsurprisingly, is called “Golden, The Miraculous Rise Of Stephen Curry.”

Thompson made his way to Cleveland as the series shifts to Northeast Ohio with the Cavaliers attempting to defend home-court, and apparently he brought his book plugs along with him. A day prior to Game 3 at the NBA Finals media availability inside Quicken Loans Arena, Curry was asked by one of the media members about the transition from being a bottom-of-the-pot defensive team in his early years with the team to a top-three defensive team in the last three NBA campaigns. Can you guess who asked the question?

Here is the exchange via Anthony Slater of the San Jose Mercury News.
Reporter: “When you look at how good you guys can be now on defense and compare to like your early years when you first got here, it's like night and day.”
“Would you consider it like a miraculous rise on defense?”
Curry: “You would — your plugs travel too, huh?”
“No, I think — you got me all messed up.”
Clearly, the two have this joke running on for a while, and it's fun to see the less serious as well as the witty side of NBA stars, especially given the big stage.
Curry is very quick witted. You don't understand how big these victories are to render him without retort 😂
