Having played last season with Rajon Rondo in the Chicago Bulls lineup, Taj Gibson has known him more than the majority of players in the league. Known for his great passing ability, Rondo has made his teammates better since he entered the NBA. However, for Gibson, he thinks he can have another career after playing professional basketball.

The newly-acquired Minnesota Timberwolves big man made a recent appearance on the Open Run Podcast of Uninterrupted via Phil Thompson of the Chicago Tribune, where he surprised hosts Jesse Williams and Stefan Marolachakis when he revealed that he believes Rondo can run for President of the U.S. in the future.

“President. He can run for president,” Gibson said. That elicited a “whoa.”

Gibson may have said it jokingly, but it also goes to show how much he respects the leadership of the veteran point guard. It also says a lot about his decision-making on the court, which is in contrast to what the Bulls coaching staff saw, that led to his benching last season.

Only a year after they became teammates, the two find themselves in separate teams in the Western Conference. Rondo signed this summer with the New Orleans Pelicans, while Gibson reunited with Tom Thibodeau and Jimmy Butler earlier in the offseason, when he agreed to join the Wolves. They may be going up against each other next year, but it can be expected that Gibson will continue to respect Rondo and think highly of him, and who knows, maybe even vote for him someday should he indeed run for the presidency.
