The Ringer's Bill Simmons shared an image of the New York Knicks' cap sheet outlook for the upcoming 2019-20 NBA season, attempting to troll the Atlantic Division rivals of his hometown Boston Celtics:

The image Simmons shared was the Knicks' top earners for next season, which include nominal power forwards Julius Randle, Marcus Morris, Bobby Portis, and Taj Gibson.

New York also signed Elfrid Payton and Wayne Ellington in free agency and is discussing reworking a previously verbally agreed upon deal with free agent wing Reggie Bullock after a physical discovered an issue with the 28-year-old.

Entering the offseason, the Knicks only really had rising sophomore center Mitchell Robinson signed for next year—the only man in the frontcourt. New York made headlines by starting free agency by signing rising star and power forward Julius Randle to a three-year deal worth $63 million, along with contracts to power forwards Bobby Portis and 34-year-old veteran Taj Gibson. Along with the late addition of Marcus Morris—who previously reneged on a two-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs and signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the ‘Bockers—the Big Apple franchise has invested a total of $57 million in the four power forwards.

Set aside Simmons' trolling, however, and the Knicks can expect versatility out of the four forwards-in-name-only. Portis, for example, played a majority of minutes last season at center and is a 6-foot-11 stretch 5, in essence. Gibson is a strong defender with only partial guarantee in compensation for next season and will likely come off the bench as a backup center or plug in at the 4. Morris, who last played for Simmons' beloved Celtics, can play both forward positions and is a solid pickup. Lastly, Randle is a strong offensive player in the post and, if needed, can play the 4 or 5.
