The New York Knicks had reportedly hoped to upgrade the point guard position last offseason by trading for New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball.
Ian Begley of SNY reported there had been some support within the organization to push for Ball, though nothing ever developed:
Entering the 2020 offseason, there had been support in some corners of Madison Square Garden for a trade to acquire Ball. But that support wasn’t strong enough for New York to complete a trade.
Now, Begley opines a Ball-to-New York move does not make much sense for the Knicks.
Immanuel Quickley continues to soak up minutes in New York's backcourt and could be the young point guard of the future in the Big Apple.
Instead, the Knicks—currently at 8-11 and in ninth place in the Eastern Conference—could look to add a more cost-effective veteran player at the point guard spot.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the Knicks were one of the teams showing interest in Derrick Rose, who played under Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau during their time together in Chicago. Rose also has experience playing in New York, spending the 2016-17 season there.
Meanwhile, Ball's future is something of uncertainty.
The former UCLA star has struggled to start the season, shooting below 30 percent from beyond the arc on 7.2 attempts per game. Ball is also averaging just 4.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 31.8 minutes, numbers below his usual productivity rate.
Charania reported Tuesday the Pelicans were open to listening to offers for Ball, though it remains to be seen whether the Knicks will be involved.
