William Dean, the attorney for three of the four men former New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker allegedly robbed was recently arrested in Florida on Monday morning. His arrest was in conjunction with an alleged extortion attempt, as per the New York Post.

The lawyer currently represents Julius Lamar, Tommy Hartshaw, and Steven Compton – the three individuals who previously recanted statements against Baker last week. A source with knowledge of the situation told The Post that Dean and his clients demanded $1.5 million from Baker and negotiated the number down to $800,000 in order to change their statements. However, no amount of money was ever transacted between both sides all throughout the proceedings.

In the aftermath of the emerging situation, USA Today‘s Art Stapelton has also confirmed that all charges pressed against the NFL player have already been dropped.

DeAndre Baker tallied 61 total tackles, accounting for 48 solo and 13 assisted along with eight passes defended in 16 games played as a rookie for the Giants last season. He last made his appearance in the league on Dec. 30, 2019, in a 34-17 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Giants eventually waived Baker in September of 2020 and still remains to be a free agent to this day. The cornerback could still be subject to discipline under the NFL’s personal conduct policy before he gets to make a comeback on the field.

Baker's other companion in Seattle Seahawks safety Quinton Dunbar was also released from charges after citing lack of evidence and already pleaded not guilty in the case. Dunbar managed to return on the field for the Seahawks in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season.
