Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan shared some knowledge with respect to how the team's offense dissects matchups during a recent appearance on 680 The Fan radio earlier this week.

Ryan used the example of the Falcons' “Gun Triple Right” formation in which Julio Jones is the “X” receiver. The former MVP said Jones is always the primary receiver in single coverage. But since he so often draws multiple defenders, Ryan often has to shift reads to the three-man bunch and assess whether the defense is in man or zone coverage.

The 35-year-old also said the Falcons should have more options in such a set given the presence of a strong receiving back in Todd Gurley out of the backfield.

From Jones and Gurley to Calvin Ridley, the Falcons do possess some intriguing talent at the skill positions. It will be up to Ryan to lead the ship.

Ryan's 2019 was something of a mixed bag. He completed over 66 percent of his pass attempts and threw for nearly 4,500 yards and 26 touchdowns. But he also threw 14 interceptions, and his 7.3 yards gained per pass attempt was Ryan's lowest such mark since 2013.

The Falcons will be hoping Ryan can drive a high-scoring offense and propel the team to the playoffs after consecutive 7-9 seasons.
