The Detroit Lions are reportedly signing fourth-year offensive guard Joe Dahl to a two-year extension, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport adds that Dahl, 26, will be signed through the 2021 season with the Lions and is “competing” for a starting role.
The Lions selected Dahl in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft after a collegiate career at the University of Montana and later Washington State following a transfer year.
Dahl has started in only four games in his three seasons with the Motor City franchise. He's appeared in 22 of the possible 48 games, however, including 10 of those appearances last season for Lions head coach Matt Patricia in 2018.

Lang retire at the conclusion of the 2018 season, Detroit signed guards Oday Aboushi (most recently of the Arizona Cardinals) and undrafted free agent Beau Benzschawel after the draft. Undrafted free agent tackles Matt Nelson and Ryan Pope rounded out the new additions for the team. Journeyman center Luke Bowanko, 28, signed in spring with the franchise.
Returning offensive linemen for the Lions include 2018 fifth-round pick Tyrell Crosby, a tackle; 25-year-old and former first-round pick Taylor Decker, another tackle; Andrew Donnal; center Graham Glasgow; 2018 first-round selection Frank Ragnow; Rick Wagner; and Kenny Wiggins.
While signing a two-year extension with the club inspires confidence that Dahl could find a starting role, it's not certain that the guard is guaranteed the starting gig. Instead, the team might be locking him up indefinitely.
