Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was dealing with a hip injury during Sunday's game, but claims it was unrelated to the back injury he dealt with last year.

Stafford first showed up on the injury report on Friday, and when asked to detail what caused the injury, Stafford had no interest in talking.

“No,” Stafford said about the injury via the Detroit Free Press. “I was OK. I was out there. I was playing. I’ve played through a lot in my career. Like I say, work a long time to get opportunities to go out there and play. Don’t take any of them for granted. Obviously, it was a big game, big game at home for us. They’re all big, and I wanted to be out there for my guys.”

At times it was clear that the hip injury was really bothering him, but he still did everything he could to try and help the Lions beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Stafford completed 21 of 34 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns.

After the game Lions coach Matt Patricia said he was impressed with what Stafford was able to do, but also said he didn't expect anything different from such a leader.

“He’s one of the toughest guys we've got,” Lions coach Matt Patricia said. “I mean, there’s no if, ands or buts about it. I mean, he’s competing extremely hard. We’ve got a lot of guys out there that are banged up or got banged up during the game that went out and finished and played hard, and he was leading the charge.”

The good news for Stafford and the Lions is they are heading into a bye week so hopefully, the week off is all he needs to rest up the hop and be 100 percent when they take on the Green Bay Packers in a couple of weeks.
