The Detroit Lions offense has shown plenty of signs of promise during their joint practices with the New England Patriots. Regardless, quarterback Matthew Stafford understands that it is far too early for them to start letting up.

The Lions have been busy getting some of their new faces assimilated within their system. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Stafford is optimistic about the current state of the offense:

“It’s not like one day it’s going to sit out here and click and for the rest of our lives we’re going to be perfect, and vice versa,” Stafford said. “We got to prove it every day. You’ve got to go out there and compete, know what you’re supposed to do, go out there, execute at a high level. Just cause you did it yesterday doesn’t mean you can do it today, you’ve got to prove it every day and we got a bunch of good guys that come to work with that attitude and it’s fun to be a part of.”

Stafford added that the offense is progressing nicely ahead of the 2019 NFL season.

“I think terminology, scheme, assignment wise, yes,” Stafford said. “I think guys are more and more comfortable. We’ve still got to execute at a higher level on a more consistent basis, but I’m probably going to say that until the last day I play football. You always want to be a little bit better than you are.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Stafford's comments. The Lions' offense struggled mightily in their first year under new head coach Matt Patricia. It is safe to say that the veteran is hoping to bounce back from a disastrous 2018 campaign.

Detroit has managed to add some firepower to Stafford's repertoire this offseason in the form of wide receiver Danny Amendola and tight end T.J. Hockenson. Their presence should provide some much-needed experience to the youth movement the Lions have ushered in recent years.

The onus will undoubtedly fall on Stafford and Patricia to ensure that this offense can bounce back in the 2019 NFL season.
