The Detroit Lions are a team that is focused on bolstering their defensive line this offseason. In turn, they've added a new member to the defense. In an attempt to improve the defensive front, Detroit has signed Nick Williams to a two-year deal, per Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Williams began his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a seventh-round pick in 2013. However, before he even took a snap with Pittsburgh, he was released and signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014.

Then, after nearly three seasons in Kansas City and a short stint with the Miami Dolphins, the now Lions talent found a home with the Chicago Bears in 2018. In his first season with the Bears, the Samford product recorded just two tackles in two games.

Due to the injury to Akiem Hicks in 2019, Williams saw an expanded role, starting in five games. Surprisingly enough, Williams made the first five starts of his career this past season. At the least, Williams performed well in a more prominent role in Chicago's defense.

After failing to record a single sack in his first six seasons, Williams notched a career-high seven sacks with the Bears in 2019. In addition, he was able to recover two fumbles and tally five tackles for loss.

For Lions fans, some may not know much about Williams or how he can contribute to Detroit's defense. But as Caplan stated, the Lions don't appear to be done strengthening their defensive line for 2020. Given that, Williams is just the beginning of an active offseason for Detroit along the defensive line.
