Once the Los Angeles Rams landed their new star quarterback in Matthew Stafford, rumors began circling that the team actually had a go at Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers in a deal that ultimately never came to fruition. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has spoken out about the rumor, claiming that there simply is no truth behind the same.
Gutekunst vehemently denied the notion that Green Bay was even considering trading the current frontrunner for the season's MVP award:

It's great that the Packers front office has come out with a statement to reaffirm their loyalty to Rodgers. Gutekunst's message here appears to be loud and clear: that the three-time All-Pro QB is absolutely not on the trading block.
Nevertheless, one cannot help but think that the damage has already been done. It's not really as if the rumor was unsubstantially plucked out of thin air, and as they always say, where there's fire, there's smoke.
Rodgers himself has done his part in casting doubt on his tenure in Green Bay with the 37-year-old recently describing his future with the team as “uncertain.” The Packers will/must do everything in their power to keep Rodgers in Green Bay, but based on his own comments, it would be foolish for the front office to not explore the possibility of moving on from Rodgers, even just as a contingency plan.
