The Green Bay Packers have added an extra linebacker to compete in training camp. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, via Twitter, the team was rewarded linebacker Markus Jones off of waivers. He last played for the Baltimore Ravens and was recently waived. Via the freelancing Dov Kleiman, through Twitter, the Packers waived defensive back Javien Hamilton to make room for the addition.

Jones went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft after playing his college ball at Angelo State. In his senior season, the 23-year-old recorded 62 total tackles and 13.5 sacks. In the year before, he tallied 63 total tackles and 10.5 sacks. He finished his NCAA career with 33 sacks to his name. At his pro-day, he recorded a 4.81 second 40-time.

NFL.com's resident scout Lance Zierlein described Jones in a pre-draft profile, saying:

Jones plays with good leverage and adequate play strength at the point of attack, but his lack of length will be a concern against NFL size. Jones lacks explosiveness and suddenness so his play will need to be defined by power and hustle. Jones is a 4-3 base end who may have a chance of finding a practice squad where a team can try and develop his rush talent further.

He isn't expected to make the Packers' roster, but could be a nice practice squad stash. The Packers boast one of the NFL's most revamped defensive front-sevens, despite Clay Mathews and Mike Daniels cuts. They added Za'Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, and Kingsley Keke to the rotation. The culmination of their efforts should be a team lacking obvious practice squad talent.
