Since the Jacksonville Jaguars made the decision to part ways with veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis after 12 seasons, there has been little talk about his next landing spot to continue his NFL career.

It appears that he could be nearing a possible new home in the league as Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that the Green Bay Packers are set to bring him in for a visit sometime this week.

The Green Bay Packers are interested in former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis and are expected to visit with him this week, an NFL source said.

The Packers have addressed the tight end position earlier this offseason by signing Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham to a three-year, $30 million deal. This could make the possible interest in Lewis stemming from providing additional depth at the position while bringing another proven asset for the offense into the fold for Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to utilize.

The 34-year-old has put together a productive career making 375 catches for 4,502 receiving yards, and 33 touchdown receptions. Lewis may not be the player he once was as a receiving option, he is coming off a respectable 2017 campaign where he had 24 catches on 49 targets for 318 receiving yards and five touchdowns. In fact, he hasn't notched more than 25 catches in each of the last five years but has still proven to be a highly effective blocker at the position.

Green Bay doesn't currently possess a great deal of salary cap space with roughly $10.1 million still available to them. The possible addition of Lewis would all but put them out of the running to land former Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant, who the team has been constantly linked to over the last several weeks since he was initially let go by the Dallas Cowboys.
