By now, no one should be doubting the prolific trash talk game of Jacksonville Jaguars star cornerback Jalen Ramsey. It was not that long ago when he unloaded on many of the league’s quarterbacks. This time around, Ramsey’s mouth seems to be going after the wide receivers. Well, Cincinnati Bengals wideout A.J. Green at least.
Mina Kimes of ESPN recently published a long feature about the All-Pro secondary menace, and among the many interesting bits in the story is Ramsey’s take on Green, who he had an altercation with during a game last season.
“I called him soft, called him a punk,” Ramsey says. “Talked to him. Said whatever I wanted to say. Did whatever I wanted to do.” He snorts. “Receivers are, like, naturally soft. So sensitive.”
Back in Week 9 of the 2017 season, with the Jaguars coming off a bye and hosting the visiting Bengals, Ramsey incessantly tried to get under the skin of A.J. Green. Ramsey succeeded, but not before getting whacked in the head by Green, who also put the corner on an amateurish-looking rear-naked choke.
It was a graphic fight that simply does not belong on a football field, though, for some reason, the two escaped suspensions.
What NFL players are going to have a hard time escaping from is the abrasive rhetoric of Jalen Ramsey, who’s young, talented, and filled with confidence in his ability.
Unless the Jags and the Bengals meet in the playoffs or some crazy trade happens, Ramsey and Green are not going to see each other on the field this season, but the former already made sure to send his message to the latter.
