After hours of speculation, the Jacksonville Jaguars confirmed the rumors by selecting Travon Walker with the first pick in the 2022 NFL draft. The move brings new fire to a young team that is in desperate need of help from both sides of the ball. However⦠Walker nearly wasn't able to attend the biggest moment of his young career thus far.
A few moments before the Jaguars selected him, Ian Rapoport reported that Travon Walker was involved in a car crash prior to the draft. The Georgia DE reportedly crashed into two parked cars in Athens, GA. Thankfully, Walker was both unhurt and received no citations for the infraction.
A big-time scare before the Draft: #Georgiaās Travon Walker was in a serious car accident in Athens, GA before the draft, crashing into two parked cars, per me and @TomPelissero. He emerged without injuries somehow. No citations. But a scare for sure.

Fortunately for the Jaguars, Walker was unharmed, and was able to make the NFL Draft unharmed. With their current roster, the team badly needs help on the defensive end. Most of their off-season moves have been focused more on improving their offense around last year's first overall pick Trevor Lawrence. With this move, their defense gains a potentially dangerous threat for opposing quarterbacks.
It remains to be seen what other moves the Jaguars will do this day in regards to the NFL Draft. They've already got their guy in Walker, but they could still potentially make moves to draft in the first day of the three-day event. Bolstering their defense might be their priority, since they've already gotten top-tier talents on offense.
Walker's selection sparked a five-pick stretch of teams selecting defensive players, with talents such as Ahmad Gardner, Aidan Hutchinson, and Kayvon Thibodeaux being selected in the top five.
