The Jacksonville Jaguars made a bit of a splash by trading for Cleveland Browns running back Carlos Hyde. It appears his acquisition was directly tied to running back Leonard Fournette's lingering health issues.

It is no secret that Fournette has had a rough time staying on the field to begin his career. According to Mike Silver of NFL.com, this is reportedly why they made the trade in the first place:

Jags' decision to trade for Carlos Hyde stemmed from mounting frustration inside the building–and particularly among coaches–about Fournette's prolonged absence. Built the offense around him, hamstring issue continues to linger

Their concerns are not a good sign of optimism regarding Fournette's health. He has been battling with a lingering hamstring issue that has mostly kept him out of the 2018 NFL season. Recent reports suggest that he could be out until Week 10.

Jacksonville's decision to bring Hyde in certainly makes plenty of sense. The Jaguars have always used a run-heavy approach on offense. However, that becomes difficult with running back T.J. Yeldon being the only one available. Although Yeldon has proven to be a viable replacement for Fournette, it seems the coaching staff is not looking to have him carry the full workload. As a result, it appears he will likely split touches with Hyde in the near future.

Unlike Yeldon, Hyde's skill set is that of a bell-cow back. He is no stranger to getting 20 carries a game as evidenced by his brief stint in Cleveland. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how the pecking order shakes out once Fournette makes his return.
