For the first time this season, it feels like Urban Meyer is now seriously in danger of losing his job as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rumors have been circling for quite some time now, but at the moment, the whispers are getting really loud.

As it turns out, the Jaguars may have already identified the next man up for the team. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, assistant coach Charlie Strong has emerged as the top candidate as Meyer's replacement if and when the Ohio State icon is removed from his post:

Sources said general manager Trent Baalke has become a strong proponent of Jaguars assistant head coach/inside linebackers coach Charlie Strong as an in-house candidate should ownership end up parting with Meyer after just one season.

It is worth noting, however, that based on the above report, it does not sound like the Jaguars are going to cut ties with Meyer in the immediate future. The organization might be willing to wait until the season concludes before they make their decision on his future with the squad.

The fact that two candidates have already emerged as the Jaguars' next head coach certainly does not bode well for Urban Meyer. It's no secret that his tenure in Jacksonville has been characterized by controversies, unsavory relationships with his players, and most importantly, poor performances on the field. Right now, it sounds like the next word we're going to be using to describe his stint with the Jaguars is going to be “short-lived.”
