The Philadelphia Eagles made the decision this week to not use their franchise tag on quarterback Nick Foles. The move would have been a bit odd to keep him under the tag anyways considering they have made it clear that when healthy Carson Wentz is their guy.
Presumably, Wentz will be ready for the start of next season, and Foles deserves to play elsewhere and remain a full-time starter.
There has been a lot of speculation even prior to Foles being free to hit the free agent market that several teams could make a play for him. As of right now, the Jacksonville Jaguars are the overwhelming favorites.
Jacksonville's current quarterback situation is a disaster, and Blake Bortles will likely never be the guy they drafted him to be. This has forced Jacksonville to look elsewhere for a new quarterback and Foles is the hot commodity in regards to the position.
Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they lack playmakers on offense, and since the 2017 season, the offense is simply not up to speed with the elite defense. One aspect that may sway Foles to come to Jacksonville is offensive coordinator John DeFilippo who was with the Eagles two seasons ago when they won the Super Bowl. The reunion could be a match made in heaven for the Jaguars and reestablish themselves in the AFC, but Foles will need some help on offense.
As of right now wide receiver Dede Westbrook and running back Leonard Fournette are the only weapons the offense has. If the Jaguars can sign Foles, they should draft another playmaker to help the offense in 2019.
