Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler's status was very much in question for Week 16 vs Houston after he was placed in protocols on Wednesday. However, Ekeler announced on Saturday that he's tested positive for COVID-19 again and will indeed be out on Sunday.

As the Chargers star noted, this was his last day to hopefully test negative but it just didn't work out. Although his presence is absolutely huge for Justin Herbert and Co, backup Justin Jackson has been an absolute beast.

Last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, Jackson rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries. On the season, he's rushing for an average of 5.7 yards per carry. Ekeler meanwhile is one of the best backs in the league, collecting 10 touchdowns on the ground and a total of 789 yards. He's also been a formidable threat in the air, grabbing seven more TDs.

The Chargers should fare just fine without Ekeler, especially considering their opponent is the lowly Texans, who are just 3-11. Houston also allows the most rushing yards of any team in the NFL at 145 per game.

As of right now, Los Angeles sits in a Wild Card spot at 8-6. Ekeler should be back for a crucial Week 17 matchup with the Denver Broncos. For the time being, Jackson will be looking to put in work on Boxing Day.
